Why Seek out Therapy?
It is no doubt that many of us are deeply troubled and struggling here in 2026. Out on the worlds stage we are witness to so much horror and atrocity. Fires upon fires of rage and grief are popping up everywhere that it seems hopeless to believe any of the systems we’ve relied on to support the common good, will hold their place of power for much longer. The systems are crumbling, and we feel hopeless to stop it.
In our personal lives we struggle too~ in the daily, in the yearly, in cycles- humans have always done this. We have always seen civilizations built up, crumble and fall apart, and humans have always wrestled with issues such as love, desire, fear, connection, meaning and purpose, just to name a few. What happens out there, also happens inside ourselves, in all the diverse ways we can imagine. We human beings are fascinating and mind-boggling creatures. Why do we act the way we do? What are we really seeking? My assertion is this: wholeness and unity with our true nature.
Another consistently normal and natural desire for the human being has been to seek out trusted sources to uplift us with support. Trusted guides have been usurped in religious institutions as all-knowing and all-powerful church leaders, gurus, and all manner of authority figures who ask for adherence, conformity and blind trust. These are not the kinds of guides I am speaking of when it comes to the age-old wisdom of seeking out counsel. As relevant as it ever was, it is still needed today that every person has an unbiased, empathic and grounding presence who carries no agenda for us. These type of presences are very rare. To be able to sit and be not only listened to, but heard deeply, with attention and focus, is an incredible gift to ourselves.
The issue lies in the fact that seeking out therapy for either short-term issues, or long-term guidance, is still seen as taboo. It’s commonly associated with a pathology present, that “there is something wrong with me”~ (which by the way, is an absolutely perfect reason to seek therapy.) Therapy is not just relegated to these brave kind of statements, those that recognize “there’s something going on inside myself and I can’t get through it alone, I should seek some support.” Therapy is a mode of re-connection to oneself. It is available and accessible to every single human.
Its been given the ubiquitous reputation of someone sitting on a chaise lounge while a ‘shrink’ with spectacles jots down notes on a pad of paper, all while looking us over, evaluating us for our flaws, somehow signifying that we have ‘failed’ at life~ clearly why we are in the chaise lounge to begin with. This image is a staunchly created one, it is not real. One may wonder who came up with this image and why it has become so prevalent. Perhaps to know ourselves is the greatest threat to the systems at play? If individuals knew themselves, how much more would we stand up to violence in all its forms? Curious, is it not?
Wisdom seekers know there is so much more to it.
In Psycho-Spiritual therapy, the therapists job is to show you yourself, in real time. To guide you back to your own self-healing capabilities, which we all have, none are excluded from this rule. It is a space of loving awareness and presence, which asserts: The therapist’s role is one which supports the clients empowered relationship with this fact, that: “No one can know you better than yourself.”
The Psycho-Spiritual approach is a holistic one, where spirit-body-mind is in conversation with one another. No parts are separate. We can dive into various modalities around healing our emotions by gentle inquiry into their wisdom, examining family beliefs from early life, watching our emotional-behavioral patterns play out, investigate our sub-personalities~ all while keeping in mind, it is all a part of you, asking for love and reverence for its role in keeping you intact. To dive deeply into ourselves is to love ourselves. To be willing to go to those places is very courageous, no matter what stories we may be carrying when we are coming to therapy- we are guided to look at them together.
Psycho-Spiritual Therapy holds the understanding that we are spiritual beings who are living a human experience, at this time on earth~ the subjects of meaning and purpose of life come up a great deal, since they are part and parcel to the knowledge of our spiritual nature. But the nature of therapy in this way is not to prescribe any dogmatic beliefs about how it should unfold: this is a spontaneous, creative and intuitive modality which holds space and reverence for everything that arises in the therapy room. It is about healing oneself through radical self-acceptance, deep inquiry and the unfolding nature of the present moment into awareness of ourselves and all that is.
It is a generous space where all of you is welcome, precisely as you are. For the individual to rise in authenticity amidst the crumbling around us asks our courageous hearts to plant seeds of the world we wish to bring into being. This work is both timeless, and urgent. And it is the work of the great heart-warrior. Your unique story, voice and healing is needed now more than ever!
